Whisper Cymru’s story begins in 2018, when international production company Whisper TV – renowned for its sport, documentary and entertainment content – established a new broadcasting hub in the Welsh capital.

Since then, and after joining forces with Carmarthen production house Lens 360 in 2021, the BAFTA-winning production centre has gone on to broadcast global coverage of some of the world’s biggest sporting events, including Men’s and Women’s Rugby World Cups, the Women’s FA Cup, Men’s and Women’s Six Nations, the Paralympics and F1 highlights for Channel 4.

Building on its early success, Whisper Cymru set its sights on something bigger and more ambitious. In 2024, with support from the Welsh Government, the company opened the Cymru Broadcast Centre, based at Tramshed Tech in Cardiff. This industry-leading production facility – and one of the most accessible remote production hubs in Europe – aims to attract and deliver larger-scale projects.

Initially opened to deliver Channel 4’s coverage of the 2024 Paris Paralympics – the largest sports production ever run out of Wales – the hub has since gone on to create premium content for major sporting events, including the Women’s Super League 24/25.

Alongside its ambitions to grow Wales’s sports production is also a commitment to accessibility. Whisper Cymru has designed and built a workspace for those with disabilities who want a career in the production industry, featuring braille signage to custom-built wheelchair accessible desks, right down to the choosing calming colours to support neurodivergent workers.

This was all made possible through joint investment from us and Cardiff Capital Region and in collaboration with Tramshed Tech. Here at Creative Wales, we’re proud to have played our part, helping position Wales as a leader in large-scale remote broadcasting and broadening its reputation beyond high-end drama and scripted productions. The investment to date will strengthen Wales’ production infrastructure and help to secure the future of this state-of-the-art facility.

As part of the support package from us at Creative Wales, Whisper has committed to creating skills and outreach opportunities, including trainee placements and bespoke training activities. Whisper Cymru has also launched the Whisper Academy offering structured, paid ‘on the job’ training. In addition, working with Cardiff and Vale College, Tramshed Tech and CCR, they offer production bootcamps aimed at newcomers to the industry as well as people looking to upskill already working in TV production. Here, trainees get hands-on experience in live sport production, working alongside crews on the Paralympics, F1 and Commonwealth Games coverage – all without having to leave Cardiff.

In 2026, the production company has shown no signs of slowing down, becoming Team Wales’ official content partner on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games. And with many more projects already in the pipeline, Whisper Cymru continues to push Wales’ production talents further into the national and international spotlight.
